As people are focusing on the ongoing quarterback competition in the 49ers, coach Mike Singletary considers QB not the most important focus for 49ers.
Singletary will name a a starter between Shaun Hill and Alex Smith after the team’s third preseason game. He expressed confidence that one of the two QBs will step up as the starter. No plan to choose from other players wearing steelers jerseys.
“I believe … at the right time, one of those guys will be the guy that will take us where we need to go,” Singletary said. “But those other things have to happen in training camp. For me, quarterback is not the most important focus.”
“Whether Shaun is the quarterback or Alex is the quarterback, our offensive line has to get better, the receivers have to get better, the defense has to get better, the coaches have to get better,” he said. “All those things have to get better. We have to get to that place in a hurry. The quarterback will evolve. It will jump out.”
Singletary is in his first full season as an NFL head coach, and he considers that the development of the entire team preferential to quarterback competition.

Will Morgan be the 49ers top receiver?
Josh Morgan had 20 receptions for 319 yards with the 49ers in 2008. And he looks like a top receiver in the 49ers. The question is how will he prove that?
Morgan has been working out with the “Z” position, switching from the “X” position that he played last season. He told reporters that he’s now comfortable with current postition and working hard on workouts. But the competition between Shaun Hill and Alex Smith for QB start job means that Morgan will have no good chance to prove his capability by catching passes from an elite quarterback. So be conservative on listing Morgan as the top receiver.
