Ten-year veteran tight end Alge Crumpler ended his free agency on Wednesday by signing a contract with the New England Patriots, the third team he has played with since putting on the Atlanta Falcons jersey in 2001 as a second-round draft pick.
Crumpler spent the last two seasons with the Tennessee Titans and finished the last season with 27 receptions for 222 yards and one touchdown. During the entire past nine seasons, he has started 122 of 139 regular-season games with 367 catches for 4,691 yards and 37 touchdowns and was selected to Pro Bowl for four times.
The Patriots expect that the 32-year-old veteran could fill a glaring hole in their offense, making him the first tight end on their current roster who has appeared in an NFL game since Ben Watson joined the Cleveland Browns on a free-agent contract and Chris Baker was released and signed with the Seattle Seahawks.

Free agent safety Jones joined Bucs with two-year contract
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced on Wednesday that they had signed free agent safety Sean Jones to their roster with a two-year contract, eliminating the possibility of Jones wearing back the Philadelphia Eagles jersey after he was let go as a free agent.
Being drafted by the Cleveland Browns as a second-round pick in 2004, Jones spent all of his first five seasons with the Browns before joining the Eagles last season. He was offered the starting job in Philadelphia in nine games and he finished the last season with 72 tackles, one sack and two interceptions.
His performance was better while playing for the Browns. Becoming a full-time starter since 2006, he had 16 interceptions over the past four seasons and has been tied for fourth in numbers of interceptions among safeties. At age 28, he is not yet too old to improve. Hope that he could offer the necessary help the Buccaneers are in need of.

Redskins re-signed veteran center Rabach to a three-year contract
According to the official announcements made by the Washington Redskins on Monday, they have successfully persuaded veteran center Casey Rabach to wear back the Redskins jersey after signing a $12.3 million, three-year contract.
“Casey has been a productive player in this league for many years and we expect him to be a key ingredient to our success,” Coach Mike Shanahan said in a statement released by the team. Indeed, the 32-year-old Rabach has started 79 of the club’s last 80 games and is expected to continue playing his anchor role at the position.
After signing Rabach, the Redskins’ job of adding more parts for their line is still far from end. Having signed former Minnesota Vikings tackle Artis Hicks from free agent market, the Redskins’ next target is released former Denver Broncos center Casey Wiegmann.

LB Fujita officially left Saints to Browns
The new NFL home for linebacker Scott Fujita has been confirmed to be the Cleveland Browns. Being an unrestricted free agent after spending the last four seasons with the New Orleans Saints, Fujita signed a multi-year contract with the Browns on Sunday.
The eight-year veteran Fujita helped the Saints win a Super Bowl victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Feb. 8. Before putting on the Saints jersey, he spent one season with the Dallas Cowboys and the previous three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, and his numbers in the eight seasons included 19 sacks, five interceptions, nine forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries
Along with Fujita, free agent offensive lineman Tony Pashos also signed a multi-year contract with the Browns. Jets are reported to release RB Jones
Although the New York Jets prolific running back manufactured the best personal season of a proud career last season, he is still to be the one the team will give up before the 2010 season, for several reasons.
The New York Daily News reported Saturday that the Jets are going to release Jones in a few days as Jones has declined to restructure to his contract that may cause a salary cut. Due a grand total of $5.8 million in 2010, including a pending $3 million roster bonus, Jones is expensive to retain. That could be the biggest reason for the Jets to make their decision. The announcement is supposed to make before March 19 to avoid the roster bonus.
Rushing for a career-high 1,402 yards on 331 carries last season, Jones is turning 32 in 2010. The age along with the salary and younger running back’s emergence, all caused the veteran to be expendable. While Jones is considered to be worn out, Shonn Greene is just coming off his rookie season with 540 rushing yards and two touch downs. With Jones taking off his Jets jersey, Greene is very likely to be the next starting running back.

Bears offered one-year contract with TE Angulo and WR Peterman
During offseason, some players could be cut by their teams for different kinds of reasons, but some others will get long-awaited deals to be done because their performance has finally been recognized by the teams they are playing for. Tight end Richard Angulo and wide receiver Eric Peterman are not very famous, but are among those who get confirmation from teams.
The Chicago Bears announced Monday that they have agreed one-year contracts with both Angulo and Peterman, giving them a chance to have more playing time after spending most of their time on practice squad last season.
Angulo was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 2003 as a seventh round pick and played on season in Rams jersey. During his career, he has totally played in 27 games for the Rams, Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars, having 17 receptions for 155 yards. He was a part of the Bears’ practice squad during the 2006 season.
Peterman’s resume is much simpler. The undrafted free agent from Northwestern began his relationship with the Bears from the 2009 preseason and restarted in the final week of the regular season by joining their practice squad.

Patriots and QB Brady are talking about new contract
The New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is entering his final year of current contract with the Patriots and he is now expecting a good deal from the Patriots. If the Patriots consider he is worth it, Brady may become one of the highest paid players in the NFL.
Brady is due a $3 million roster bonus on March 5, the first official day of the 2010 league year. And the presence of a $3 million roster bonus could potentially take negotiations to a higher level as roster bonuses can create an added incentive for a team to strike a deal with a player. Instead of paying the roster bonus and then later striking a lucrative extension, there is sometimes a benefit for the team to get it all done at once from an overall cash standpoint.
Actually if Brady continues to play in Patriots jersey for the rest of his career, he will earn $15 million to 18 million or higher per season. Now the two sides just need to figure out where the new deal will be within the range and how the $3 million roster bonus works with Brady's contract situation.

Released by the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday, veteran Ben Hartsock got a one-year contract from the New York on Wednesday, at least his agent Mike McCartney said so, and the Jets have not made an announcement yet, but it was known that they have waived punter Glenn Pakulak.
The 29-year-old Hartsock joined the NFL in 2004 as the 5th pick in the 3rd round to wear the colts jersey. He spent his first two seasons with the Colts and another two with the Tennessee Titans. Having 27 catches for 273 yards in five seasons, Hartsock, however, will fill Jets need for a blocking tight end.
