The San Diego Chargers have given up nine-year veteran running back LaDainian Tomlinson because of failure in long-term-contract negotiation, and they may continue using the exit strategy with another running back, Darren Sproles.
Having spent all of his first four seasons with the Chargers, Sproles could become an unrestricted free agent if the Chargers do not use franchise tag or offer new contract before March 5 deadline for free agency. But according to reports by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers have no interest in holding onto Sproles with the franchise tag or as a restricted free agent cause that will cost them $7.3 million. What they are expecting is a long-term contract.
But if they fail to meet Sproles’ demand for a long-term contract and let him enter the free agents market that include Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook, it would be wonderful news to other teams who may be in need of good running backs. Hope the Chargers won’t fill regretful when Sproles decides to put on another team’s NFL jersey.

Chambers was released even after contributing to team’s win
With his production dropping off dramatically this season, wide receiver Chris Chambers should have known that he would lose his job in the San Diego Chargers some day when the team found it necessary to release him, but he simply would not expect that it happened only one day after he contributed to the team’s win.
The Chargers released Chambers Monday after he had a key catch in a 24-16 win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. The releasing was mainly caused by the emergence of Malcom Floyd, who took over Chambers starting job on Sunday.
The team also needs a roster room to sign a linebacker for replacement to injured Tim Dobbins. Unlucky Chambers just unfortunately became the team’s most expendable personnel because of his underachieved performance of this season.
Totally different from the receiver that the Chargers obtained at the trading deadline in 2007 from Miami at the cost of a second-round draft pick. At that time he was considered worth the trading as he helped the Chargers reach the AFC championship game that season. But things just changed as time passed. Taking off his Chargers jersey, Chambers is to decide what to do in the future.

Chargers released safety Hart to re-sign DT Scott
If giving up a starting strong safety is a necessary step to add depth on the defensive line, the San Diego Chargers will not hesitate to do it right away. In fact, they did release starting strong safety Clinton Hart on Wednesday, because they need a roster room to sign defensive tackle Ian Scott.
The Chargers lost tackle Jamal Williams for the season for a triceps injury, and it sounds more important to them to get a new tackle to fill the spot than to decide whether a starting strong safety is expendable. I really feel regretful for Hart, who joined the Chargers in 2004 and has been a starting safety since 2007, but as they always say, it is how the game goes.
As for Scott, the seven-year veteran was already a Chargers’ tackle last September and appeared in four games wearing Chargers jersey. But he was released at the conclusion of training camp. So I wonder whether the Chargers will bring back Hart when they have gotten a roster room this season. It is possible, isn’t it?

Chargers Center Hardwick to miss 8 weeks for ankle surgery
On Wednesday, the San Diego Chargers center Nick Hardwick had a surgery on his left ankle, and the rehabilitation would take him about eight weeks. The Chargers will have fifth-year pro Scott Mruczkowski starting at center.
The Chargers said the surgery was to tighten a ligament in Hardwick’s ankle. The six-year veteran was hurt in the season opener at Oakland on Sept. 14, and the injury was originally said to be a sprained ankle and kept Hardwick out for Sunday’s 31-26 home loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
According to Chargers Coach Norv Turner, the team will hold off deciding whether to put Hardwick on injured reserve—and losing him for the rest of the year—until they can gauge his recovery and if they need to use the roster spot for another player. Three key offensive starters will miss Chargers Sunday’s game
It is very near that the game between the San Diego Chargers and the Baltimore Ravens will begin. However, three Chargers key offensive starters are expected to miss the game on Sunday.
Running back LaDainian Tomlinson, center Nick Hardwick and right guard Louis Vasquez all missed their second straight practice on Thursday, decreasing the chance they’ll play against the vaunted Ravens defense. All of the three had injuries, with Hardwick and Tomlinson’s ankles sprained and Vasquez’s knee sprained.
According to coach Norv Turner, the players who missed Thursday’s practice would have less chance than other guys to play in Sunday’s game.
