The Cleveland Browns Coach Eric Mangini was asked on Monday if he planned to bench Derek Anderson, the NFL’s lowest-rated quarterback, the Coach’s answer was a definite “no”. The answer just seemed incomprehensible after another humiliating home loss.
The Browns lost 31-3 to the Green Bay Packers and Anderson went 12 of 29 for 99 yards against the Packers, completing just 23 of 70 passes in the past three games and now having an overall 40.6 rating. However, Mangini just has the feeling that Anderson can give his team the better chance to win than Brady Quinn or anyone else wearing Browns jersey.
Anderson is grateful for Mangini’s support, but knows he must improve or he will lose his job. With so many fans being frustrated by consecutive losses, whoever to be the starter just has to do something to improve the team.

Browns starting QB not decided yet
Browns coach Eric Mangini probably would like to see Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn continue competing for the starting job till the last minute. By so far, he has not announced who would be the starting quarterback for Saturday’s home exhibition opener.
It has been guessed that Anderson would likely be the starter in the game against the Detroit Lions, because Quinn started last week’s game at Green Bay. However, Mangini said he wanted to see more of their performance and would not announce the starter until the end of the practice week.
It seemed that Mangini was very careful in making the right decision on the starting quarterback. He has balanced the reps between Anderson and Quinn during training camp, but has not been ready to name the starter for the regular season opener against Minnesota on Sept. 13.
